"PULASKI--Yesterday evening, word was brought to the police office that a man was lying dangerously ill at 641 Commercial Street. Captain Douglas sent an officer to investigate the matter. In searching the room, a bottle labeled "Morophine" was found; it was half empty. Dr. HENRY administered antidotes, but they could not counteract the effects of the poison., and at 11 o'clock, the man, whose name was ascertained to be J.P. PULASKI, expired. "PURDY--THE DEATH OF EDWIN B. PURDY.—The funeral of Edwin B. PURDY, a member of Young America Engine Co. No. 13, and an ex-member of the California Legislature, who died on the 5th inst., --In this city, took place yesterday from the Pine street Church, and was largely attended. The deceased was a native of Westchester county, New York, and a man well known and highly respected. He was a gentleman who unobtrusive disposition kept him in a less conspicuous position that his merits deserved. He came to California in the early part of ’49. In 1854, he was a member of the Legislature from this city elected to oppose the extension of the “city front” and well did he sustain the views of his constituents. No member was more active, judicious and efficient in promoting the interests of the city and State on that highly important question. In his public and private relations, he manifested an integrity of character and purity of purpose which endeared him to all good citizens who knew him. About two years ago he visited his native place, and deeded his entire funds in providing for the comfort of his parents. His mother is yet living, and if this notice should ever reach her eye, it will be some solace, in her bereavement, to learn that her son was attended to the grave by numerous friends, male and female, who sincerely felt that a worthy man had departed."
