CASANFRA List Web Page
The CASANFRA mailing list is for the discussion of
genealogical research specifically in San Francisco County, California,
and is meant to be a companion list to the
San Francisco Genealogy
site at: http://www.sfgenealogy.com
There are no charges to be a listmember. Anyone with an interest
in San Francisco genealogy and history is welcome to subscribe and post
messages within the rules and guidelines listed below. CASANFRA is a "closed"
list, meaning that only listmembers may post messages, so unwanted "spam"
or junk e-mail is something we are rarely subjected to.
It is hoped that the CASANFRA list will provide a friendly and helpful
forum for the exchange of interesting discussions regarding San Francisco
genealogy and history.

Two versions of this list are available, depending on
your preference:
Regular e-mail version: You will receive each post in a separate
e-mail message.
Digest version: You will periodically receive several posts
grouped together in one e-mail
message.
To subscribe to the regular e-mail version:
Turn off any signature files you may have in your e-mail program.
Send an e-mail to: CASANFRA-L-request@rootsweb.com
In the body of the message, type ONLY the word:
subscribe
and nothing else.
You will receive a "welcome message" with further instructions.
Please print this out and SAVE IT for future reference.
To subscribe to the digest version:
Turn off any signature files you may have in your e-mail program.
Send an e-mail to: CASANFRA-D-request@rootsweb.com
In the body of the message, type ONLY the word:
subscribe
and nothing else.
You will receive a "welcome message" with further instructions.
Please print this out and SAVE IT for future reference.
How to post a message:
You must first be subscribed to either CASANFRA-L or CASANFRA-D to post
messages.
Once you're subscribed, if you'd like to post a message so everyone on
the mailing list receives it,
just send it to:
CASANFRA-L@rootsweb.com.
It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode.
You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
"Rules" for CASANFRA-L:
1. All posts should be on-topic: that is, specifically related
to San Francisco genealogy.
Discussions on other *related* topics, such
as San Francisco history, are also welcome.
2. Do *not* post attachments or files to messages sent to the
list.
3. Do *not* post "virus alerts" or any message that tells you
to "send this to everyone you know."
4. Do *not* post messages regarding "missing persons", "long-lost
friends" adoptions, or involving
any other persons who may still be living.
5. All posts should be polite and civil. Arguments, unpleasant
attitudes, foul language, etc. have no
place here.
6. For topics and threads that are more "chat-related", I suggest
the NORCALCHAT-L
list that
is available specifically for the enjoyment
of those who also want to participate in friendly,
chat-type exchanges. CASANFRA-L is
meant to be more focused on specific San Francisco
genealogy discussions.
7. Responses/results of lookup requests by volunteers *are*
encouraged to be posted on the list,
but please be sure you have the permission
of the researcher before posting private
messages to the list.
While some listmembers may disagree with the policy of posting lookup
results, it is more important for the generous
lookup volunteers to be aware of what lookups
have already been done, so that they aren't
wasting time doing duplicate work. An additional
benefit of this policy is that other subscribers
can learn a great deal about "how" to conduct
their own research, and about "what" resources
are available and "where" they can be found.
"Guidelines" for CASANFRA (which will
help keep the CASANFRA list pleasant for all):
1. Please be selective in what you post or reply to.
Re-read your posts before you send them.
Be sure they are relevant to San Francisco
genealogy, or add something useful to a discussion
about San Francisco genealogy that's already
taking place.
2. Personal messages such as "Thank you" or "I agree", directed
to only one person or regarding
only one specific post, should be sent privately
to the person, *not* to the list.
3. Please use relevant subject lines, and consider capitalizing
SURNAMES. This will increase the
chance that your message will be noticed.
4. When replying to a message, please quote *only* the relevant section,
not the entire message.
How to Unsubscribe from CASANFRA:
You MUST unsubscribe from the same exact e-mail address you used to subscribe.
Turn off any signature files you may have in your e-mail program.
If you are subbed to the regular e-mail version, send an e-mail
to:
CASANFRA-L-request@rootsweb.com
If you are subbed to the digest version, send an e-mail to:
CASANFRA-D-request@rootsweb.com
For either version, in the body of the message, type ONLY the word:
unsubscribe
and nothing else.
You will receive a confirmation message saying that you have been removed
from the list.
Feel free to contact
me if you have any questions about the CASANFRA mailing list.
Good luck with your research on your San Francisco ancestors, and have
fun!
