Special to the Mercury.

WATSONVILLE, June 13.

The commencement exercises of the Watsonville High School were held in the opera house last night and the building was crowded to the doors with relatives and friends of the graduates. The program included the presentation of Scene 2 of Act 1 of "The School for Scandal" by Myrtle BYRD and Albert DOLLEMNAYER. The glee club rendered several selections and Cliffort PALMTAG favored with a cornet solo. Miss Viola MORSE read an essay on the Jamestown Exposition and its historical significance which was replete with patriotic reference and evinced a clear understanding of the events that made the settlement of Virginia so interesting.

Harold HITCHINGS was the orator of the evening. His theme was "The Political Duties of an American Citizen." The speaker was hadicapped by stage fright, but there was plenty of good stuff in his oration.

The trial scene from "The Merchant of Venice" was well rendered by Loretta ALLISON, Maude FOWLER, Harry B. THRETHEWAY, Otto SCHUCHARD, A. Albert DOLLENMAYER, Clifford PALMTAG, Harold HITCHINGS, George PARDEE and Myron ROWE.

President E.A. HOLT of the School Trustees presented the diplomas to the graduates in a few well chosen remarks, which were responded to by Albert DOLLENMAYER on behalf of the class. The graduates are:
