The Silent Place Where Local History Is Written in Stone, By Patricia Loomis (San Jose News, August 2, 1982)—"Most of those buried in the old Kell graveyard were moved to the new cemetery [Calvary], but records were destroyed in a fire in the office of the San Francisco Archdiocese and some graves, including that of Louis Pellier, 'father of the valley's prune industry' were never found."

Laguna Cemetery
(aka Ed Levine Cemetery)
3100 Calaveras Road
Milpitas, CA 95035
408.262.6980

"The first burials occurred in the early 1860's, with the last burial in 1914. Most of the 44 plots had been sold by 1867. The plot map includes the names of Josiah Evans, Mary and Jacob Miller, J. Weller, Felter and Pomeroy. By the 1950's only a few headstones remained. Because so many headstones are missing, the names and number of those buried in the cemetery is unclear."County of Santa Clara Parks, 2006.

"The Laguna Cemetery is also located on the Spring Valley Area. This pioneer cemetery was used from 1863 to 1912. Destroyed by vandals and neglected for years, it has recently been renovated. Stop by the cemetery gates and enjoy the fascinating memorial which provides a glimpse into the lives of the people buried there."County of Santa Clara Parks, March 2007.

The Silent Place Where Local History Is Written in Stone, By Patricia Loomis (San Jose News, August 2, 1982)" Calvary became home to several pioneers originally interred in the Laguna Cemetery, now long abandoned and incorporated into Ed Levin County Park east of Milpitas. Among these were members of the Frederick Brandt family who ranched what is now the park today."

This cemetery site was where the Mountain View Pioneer and Historical Society placed its first plaque on March 3 1957."

Now and Then"The land was donated to the city as a park in the early 1900s. For some reason, the graves were simply placed down, and covered with dirt. Bodies were not removed to another cemetery, Mountain View Cemetery, became Pioneer Memorial Park....an actual home to Mountain View's pioneers...The remains of the pioneers still are buried underneath the park."
