Commencement Exercises at the Dominican Convent are Beautiful

The commencement exercises at the Dominican Convent, which were held on Tuesday afternoon, were very beautiful. Over two thousand people attended.

In the morning thebaccaulaureate sermon was preached by Dr. Basehab. The college choir, which has a national reputation, sang a capella. Miss Ruth Williams, who has a lovely contralto voice, san Schubert’s Ave Maria.

At noon, an alumni luncheon was served on the lawn a Meadowlands and there was orchestra music. Graduates from the college who had matriculated over thirty years ago were present. Many came from distant points.

At 2 p.m., the college commencement exercises were held in the auditorium. The program follows:
Processional, Saint Saens, by the orchestra.
“The Hallelujah of the Flowers,” Padre Donostia, by the Dominican College Choral.
“The Heritage of This Generation,” The Most Reverend Edward Joseph Hanna, D.D.
Conferring of degrees.
Recessional, Grandados, by the orchestra.

The Degree of Bachelor of Arts was conferred upon Irma Adler, Lucille Behan, Margaret Boss, Marcella Bricca, Kathleen Doud, Hazel Fletcher, Mildred Gorman, Berenice Hardy, Margaret Howell, Rosella Kemper, Frances Kerckhoff, Mary King, Loretta Maloney, Geraldine Mulcahy (January, 1928), Dorothy McCarthy, Margaret McMullen, Bernice Pritchard, Natalie Proskey, Pauline Quinn, Isabel Reece, Helen Rueger, Albea Scruffs (January, 1928), Agnes Snyder, Katherine Sullivan, Florine Vanderbilt, Mary Wagner, Marie Wampe.

The Candidates for California State General Credentials, Elementary and Junior High School Grade, were Irma Adler, Lucille Behan, Hazel Fletcher, Mildred Gorman, Berenice Hardy, Margaret Howell, Rosella Kemper, Frances Kerckhoff, Mary King, Dorothy McCarthy, Margaret McMullen, Bernice Pritchard, Isabel Reece, Helen Rueger, Albea Scruggs, Agnes Snyder, Katherine Sullivan, Florine Vanderbilt, Marie Mempe (sic).

The Secondary School Grade: Geraldine Mulcahy, Pauline Norboe and Ruth Williams.

Candidates for California State Special Credential in Physical Education, Secondary School Grade: Frances Kerckhoff.

Associateship Dominican Conservatory of Music (A. D. C. M.), Ruth Williams.

The associateship Dominican Conservatory of Music was awarded for the first time this year. Only one other state in the Union has such an associateship. It is for muic teachers and there a number from all over the state enrolled. The licentiate will be awarded next year.

At 3 p.m., on the picturesque terrace of the East Garden, the High School commencement exercises were held. The program follows:
Serenade for Flute and Strings, by Titl - Orchestra.
“Lift Up Thine Eyes,” Gilchrist – The Dominican High School Choral
“Canzonetta,” godard – Orchestra.
Awarding of The Dominican High School Certificate.
Address – The Most Reverend Edward Joseph Hanna, D.D., Archbishop of San Francisco.
Recessional, Charminade – Orchestra.
