1924 Marin Marriage Announcements

Guarded successfully from the knowledge of their hosts of friends for five months, the fact that on August 10th they were united in marriage was announced by Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Browne on Christmas Day. The charming bride was Miss Gwendolyn Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Barnes, of 2121 Emerson street, Berkeley. The groom is a San Rafael boy, born and reared here and now editing the Sausalito News. He is a nephew of Attorney Thomas P. Boyd, the Misses Estell and Mazie Boyd and Postmaster W. J. Boyd, the latter of Sausalito. The happy couple are making their home in a cozy little flat at 214 E street. The bride is widely known and popular in East Bay social circles. The marriage took place in Santa Rosa. Deciding that they would not take up housekeeping until about the first of the year the young couple preferred to permit the knowledge of their union to remain a secret until Christmas. |

| Miss McCrae Is Bride Of San Anselmo Banker
An event of interest to society circles in Central Marin was the marriage last Saturday at Woodland of A. H. MANGELS, of the Bank of San Anselmo, and Miss Margaret McCRAE, sister of Mrs. G. E. DeLancey, wife of Dr. DeLancey. The pretty bride comes from Victoria, British Columbia. She has been a guest for some time at her sister’s home. They are now occupying a house in Ross which was prepared for their reception. |

The marriage of Miss Undine CLEMENT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clement of Tiburon, and Thomas DAVIS of San Rafael, was an interesting event, which was solemnized at St. Stephens church, Belvedere, at 8 o’clock Tuesday evening with Rev. H. St. George Buttrum officiating. Trustee J. H. MADDEN was married to Miss Gertrude MURPHY in old St. Mary’s Cathedral on California street in San Francisco last Wednesday. |

Surprising his friends who were of the opinion that he would forever and aye present a mailed front to the onslaught of Cupid, Christian MOCKLER, last Tuesday succumbed to the wiles of the little god and led to the altar Miss Matilda WARBURTON, a charming San Anselmo girl. Thirty-five friends and relatives assembled at the Presbyterian Church here to attend the ceremony performed by Rev. Herbert Thomson. A wedding dinner was served later at the home of the bride in San Anselmo, following which the couple left for a short honeymoon trip in Southern California. Upon their return they will make t heir home in San Anselmo where the groom, formerly and for many years in business here, recently purchased a prosperous stationery business. |

| The home of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Barber was the scene of a pretty
wedding Saturday, March 22 when their youngest daughter, Miss Olive E.
BARBER, became the bride of Frank C. NELSON of Oakland. The ceremony was
held at 4 o’clock. The Rev. Herbert Thomson of the First Presbyterian Church,
read the impressive service. The house was beautifully decorated in spring
blossoms of pink and white.
The bride was given in marriage by her father, William E. Barber. She wore a dainty frock of white georgette and the conventional veil. A shower bouquet completed the costume. Attending her as flower girl was her little niece, Miss olive McFarland of Stockton. Miss Alice Johnson of San Rafael, was t he maid of honor, and was attractively gowned in orchid crepe de chine with a wreath of silver leaves in her hair. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of spring flowers. Robert Quinlan of San Francisco was the best man. Miss Letty Collins of Alameda, beautifully rendered, “Oh, Promise Me,” immediately preceding t he ceremony. She also played the wedding march. After a honeymoon spent in Southern California, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson will make their home in San Francisco. |

Miss Pirie DAVIDSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Davidson, became the bride last Saturday of Lewis Adams MAVERICK, in the presence of the relatives and several close friends. The bride is well known here, where she attended school for several years. For some time past she has been on the faculty of the University in Los Angeles. The acquaintance began in the South, where, where the groom is Recorder of Faculties at the Southern Branch of the University of California. The marriage of Miss Rose BAGSHAW to Howard DORSEY took place in San Francisco, Monday, June 16. It was a church wedding, the ceremony being solemnized at eleven o’clock in the morning. Miss Vida ELKINS and L. K. COY were married in San Francisco on Wednesday, June 11. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Elkins of Presidio avenue. She is a graduate of the Mill Valley schools and Tamalpais Union High School. A quiet wedding took place Wednesday morning when Miss Helen NORTON became the bride of Herbert SCUDDER of Sebastopol. Miss Norton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Norton of Valley Ford and sister of Mrs. E. J. Hunter of Tomales. After an extended trip north the couple will reside in Sebastopol. Page 5:
The bride-elect has been feted extensively since her arrival from the East a few weeks ago, many social affairs having been given in her honor. Miss Marjorie Pittman, sister of the bride-elect, will be maid of honor, and Mrs. Ralph Palmer, her cousin, will be matron. Miss Helen Dakin, another cousin, will be bridesmaid. Ernest Stanton, brother of the groom-elect, will act as best man, and the ushers will be Miss Pittman’s brother, Kemp Pittman, and her cousin, Goeffrey Armsby, Richard Dakin and John Ide Dakin.
