HOTEM/PIERCE--ANOTHER LEMOORE ELOPEMENT -- How a Couple of Young Lovers Were Married Despite Opposition -- A dispatch dated Merced, Oct. 14th, says: A dispatch was received here yesterday from Lemoore asking to have Lulu PIERCE, a passenger on the train, detained. The young lady was held and today her father arrived. He said she was running away to get married and he was against it. Lulu's lover, John HOTEM, who works in a broom factory in San Francisco, also arrived and at once procured a marriage license. A friend wrote a note to the old man, who was watching the daughter, telling him to follow the bearer, as there was a trick being played on him. The young man delivered it, and at once left on the run, with the old man after him. He led the old fellow all over town, and while he was doing so the couple were quietly married. On papa's return, he was told of it, but would not believe it, and made them have the ceremony preformed over again. He forgave them then, but swears he will get even with the smart young man.
