John FAY, at one time a member of the State Senate of California, died to-day at New Brighton, S.I. of Bright's disease. He was 74 years old. Mr. FAY was born in New York City. During the gold excitement in 1849 he went to San Francisco and engaged in mining enterprises. Later he went into the soap manufacturing business and afterwards became a real estate dealer. He was prominent in politics and was elected city supervisor of San Francisco and afterward a member of the State Senate. He was a member of the veteran firemen's organization of San Francisco and was at one time president of that body. A widow and two sons survive him. Mr. FAY came east about six weeks ago to visit his sister, Mrs. John SCOTT of Clifton, S.I. and his brother P. H. FAY of New York.
