DEATH -- DINKELSPIEL -- At the Occidental Hotel, San Francisco, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1896, Arthur DINKELPIEL, a native of Bavaria, aged 38 years. [Deceased came to this country in 1876. He was for several years manager of the Kutner-Goldstein Co.'s store in this city. He removed to Fresno several years ago and became Secretary of the large mercantile firm named. Last May, being ill, he went to San Francisco to consult a specialist about his health. The symptoms were quite obscure, but it was evident that some grave malady was hurrying the patient to the grave. He was first treated for malarial poisoning but the gravity and persistence of the symptoms indicated an organic trouble. One physician, out of 7 consulted, diagnosed the case as intestinal catarrh, but 2 months ago a consultation was held at which it was agreed that the disease was a cancer. It was not known whether the cancer was located in the stomach or in the small intestines, but the nature of the disease was no more in question than its speedy and fatal termination. Mr. DINKELSPIEL was not made aware of the fact. He was kept more or less under the influence of opiates for the past 2 months to ease the terrible pain incident to cancer in any form. He withered away from a sturdy man of 180 pounds to a mere skeleton. At the time of his death he did not weigh more than 80 or 90 pounds. He leaves 2 brothers who are honorably known in Bakersfield as DINKELSPIEL Brothers, general merchants. Of his 2 sisters, one is married to Dr. DAVIDSON of San Francisco, and the other to Dr. COLE of Chicago. Mr. DINKELSPIEL was a Hebrew, and the funeral, which took place in San Francisco Thursday, was conducted according to Hebrew rites.]
