We bought Kirby's Ice Cream from the original owner in 1962, and retained the name after relocating to the corner of Laguna and Fell Streets.
This landmark once boasted hordes of hippies craving rum-raisin flavor or the seasonal fresh peach ice cream in a waffle cone. Circa 1965 a SF Chronicle food critic praised the high quality of Kirby's product line in a blind taste test, noting the high butterfat content.
Junior family members now seek photos, memorabilia or your memories of the shop that ceased churning out cool treats in 1972.
