The great hotel band remotes of the 1940s.
I was announcing for NBC SF at the time. My best assignment was going to hotels for the 10pm NBC feed to West Coast stations.
My favorite at the St. Francis Mural Room was Harry Owens and his Royal Hawaiians with the wonderful Hilo Hattie.
I used to watch from the bandstand as SF socialites danced by. (I could dream, couldn't I?) One of the most beautiful was Joan Quigley. later known as Mrs. Reagan's astrolger.
At the Mark Hopkins there was Ray Noble; at the Fairmont, Ernie Heckscher.
There will never be an era like this again.
