St. Paulus Evangelical Lutheran Church was German in origin and was organized in 1867, so it's possible they were married there. In the 1870s the church would have been on Mission Street, if I remember my history correctly. The congregation still exists, but a fire in November 1995 destroyed the church building (the "new" building at Eddy and Gough Sts., dedicated in 1894) and possibly many of their records.

You might want to try this website: http://chi.lcms.org/ancestor.htm to see if the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod has a record of their marriage. Good luck.
