Actually, M. Friedman and Co. was listed in the 1899 San Francisco directory as already being on Post Street in 1899. : : The furniture company M. Friedman & Co. is listed in SF directories from after 1885 until about 1925. It is, However, never at "O'Farrell at Polk"; it is in the 200 block of Stockton 1885-1895 and the 200-block of Post 1900-1925. The owner was Marx [often Max] Friedman, b. Russia, July 1849, d. SF, 4 Aug 1934, wf. Julia [Sloane?], lots of children.

: : : I have an oak dresser made by M Friedman & Co.
: : : On the back is a decal or stencil that says :
: : : M Friedman & Co. O'FARRELL AT POLK San Francisco.
: : : Can anyone tell me when this company was in business at this location?
: : : Was it prior to the 1906 earthquake?
: : : Thank you...Tom
