"1871 -- Father Joseph M. Neri publically displays an electric light at St. Ignatius College on Market street."

"1879 -- The California Electric Light Company was incorporated (30 June). They had the first central generating station in the world for distribution of electricity to customers. New York came later in 1881 and London in 1882."
