: I am looking for a hotel called the new western any information about it... probably across from the palace. some articles or advertisements about it. what became of it after the earthquake of 1906?
---------------------------------------------------------
According to the San Francisco City Directory of 1890,
http://www.sfgenealogy.com/php/1890.php?page=1507

"New Western Hotel, Gallagher and Stanley proprietors, cor Kearny and Washington"

There is a listing for it in the San Francisco Directory of 1907,
http://www.sfgenealogy.com/php/1907.php?page=979

"New Western Hotel, 808 Kearny"

You can take a look at it's general layout in a Sanborn Map of 1900:

Map 29

As of today (July 2008), it's a parking lot.

As for advertisements and articles, you may find something in the older newspaper indexes,
