THIS IS KINDA FUN. MY FATHER STARTED WORKING AT MANNING'S AT THE SECURITY MARKET IN SEATTLE IN THE EARLY '30's. [ I HAVE A PICTURE OF HIM BEHIND THE COUNTER THERE ] HE PROPOSED TO MY MOM THERE IN THE PIKE PLACE STORE. HE WENT ON TO MANAGE THE MANNING'S STORE IN EVERETT DURING MOST OF MY GROWING UP YEARS IN EVERETT. I THINK HE STARTED THERE IN ABOUT 1941 CONTINUEING UNTIL ABOUT 1953 WHEN HE BOUGHT INTO THE VILLAGE CAFE IN MARYSVILLE. LATER, WHEN MANNING'S LEFT EVERETT, HE TOOK OVER THE SITE AND ESTABLISHED A CAFETERIA THERE I THINK HE CALLED IT "WAYNE'S CAFETERIA. I REMEMBER EMBARASSING MYSELF IN THE EVERET STORE AT ABOUT 12 OR 13. HAROLD WEEKS THE DISTRICT MANAGER HAD BOUGHT ME LUNCH AND I HAD "AN INCIDENT" TRYING TO CUT A PIECE OF MEAT.
