MRS. PORTEOUS MAKES MANY GIFTS
$5,000 for Episcopal Church At Ross

The will of the late Mrs. Porteous, which will come up for probate next Monday, makes many bequests to relatives, friends, servants and charity. The full text of the will is as follows:

I, Janet Stoddart Porteous, widow of James Stoddart Porteous, do on this 18th day of January, 1904, appoint Wm. R. Sherwood, Wm. A. Magee and Henry M. Whitely, the executors without bonds of this my last will and testament. I hereby instruct these, my executors, to pay to my brother, David Landsborough, Kilmarnock, Scotland, $15,000 in lieu of all further share or interest in the estate of his late wife, Jessie Stoddart Porteous, or Landsborough. I bequeath $15,000 to my sister, Isabella Thomson, or her heirs; $5,000 to the children of my brother, John Landsborough, late of Timarn, New Zealand; $10,000 to the children of my brother, Wm. Landsborough; $10,000 to the children of my brother, David Landsborough; to the children of my brother, James Landsborough, $10,000.

I also bequeath in memory of my dear husband the property on Stockton and California streets, San Francisco, known by the Nos. 701, 703 and 705 Stockton street, to the British Benevolent Society of San Francisco, California. To dear friends I leave my jewelry, shawls and books to be distributed by my niece, Georgy Whitely; my silver kettle I wish to be sent to my brother, David; my silver tea set to my sister Isabella Thomson; the silver snuff box to be given to Wm. R. Sherwood; the silver plate, basquets(?) and salvers I __?__ have redipped and given to my friends. To the following friends I leave $300 each: Mrs. Ransom, _?_ Bush street; Gertrude Soule, Annie Fox, Miss English and Miss Williams of St. Charles street, Victoria, B. C. To my godchildren Sherwood Chapman, Arthur McLean and Willie A. Magee I leave $500 each. To my goddaughter Marian Pitts, Victoria, B. C., I leave $500. To my name child, Janet Porteous Parkinson, $500; to my name child, Janet Steinberg, Port Cost, $160. I bequeath to the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, the deer by Vidal and any of the paintings in the house thought worthy of being placed in the gallery except the miniature of my father, which I wish sent to my nephew J. A. Thomson. To my faithful Shang I leave $2,500, and to each of my domestics I leave $100. To Miss Parsons I leave my parrot and $100. To Mrs. Holt, 1831 Howard street, San Francisco, I leave my dear little dog Beaver and $2,500. I bequeath $5,000 to aid in building a new church at Ross under the same rule as the Episcopal Mission now is. I bequeath $500 to my second cousin, Smith Glascow, care of D. Landsborough. All my personal effects I leave to my nieces Isabella L. Landsborough and Georgy Whitely, knowing that they will give remembrances to my dear friends, Mrs. Sherwood, Mrs. Chapman and others. This is my last will and testament is written by me at Hippolite Ranch on Monday, the 18th day of January, 1904.

February 16, 1904 I revoke the legacy to Mrs. Holt and instead of $2,000 I bequeath her $1,000. To Mrs. Winsor, Sausalito, I bequeath $1,000 and ask her to take care of little Beaver.. To my old servant, Miss Jane Cook, Strathmiglo Fife, Scotland, I leave $500. To Henry Hanson, my coachman, I leave $500. To A. D. Anderson I leave $500, and to Annie F. Anderson, paradise Valley, Butte county, I leave $500. To the Society for Infirm Ministers of the Free Church of Scotland, I leave $2,500. After all debts have been liquidated the residue of my estate I leave share and share alike to the children of my brothers David, james, William and my sister Isabella.

This is my last will and testament. I hereby sign.
