Stanley Dollar Estate Valued At $833,000

Former San Rafael shipping magnate R. Stanley Dollar left an estate valued at $833,000 in an inventory filed in Alameda County Superior Court.

Stock in the Dollar companies real estate, savings accounts, and oil holdings that comprise the estate were left in trust to his two children, Mrs. Diana D. Hickingbotham of 1408 Mission Avenue, San Rafael, and R. Stanley Dollar Jr. of Walnut Creek.

A provision in the will made Jan. 2, 1958, leaves his wife, Esther of Piedmont, the income from the trust until her death at which time it is to be divided between young Dollar and Mrs. Hickingbotham.

The widow and children were named executors for the estate.

Dollar left his household and personal effects to his wife stating that “I intentionally make no other bequests to my wife, not because of any lack of love or affection, but because she and I believe she is already adequately provided for.”

Dollar’s father, Capt. Robert Dollar, founder of the Dollar Steamship Company, settled his family in San Rafael in the 1880s. Mrs. Hickingbotham now lives in the old family home.
