Hi Priscilla,
I checked the 1930 census and found Allison G. Spence, age 58, NY, NY-NY, and single living in Petaluma, Sonoma Co., CA. I assume this is your guy.

I checked the Marin Co. death index through 1937 and did not find him listed. I did not find him on Vital Search either. Nor did I find him on the CA Death Index which began in 1940.

Sorry not to be able to help. I suggest you try Sonoma County.
