EDGAR F. BAXTER
Passing of Aged Father of Editor’s Home

Edgar Frederick Baxter, father of Mrs. Elizabeth Brown Douglas, entered into rest on Friday morning, January 21. After three years of increasing invalidism, the end came peacefully. Sidney, Delaware county, New York, was his native place and the passing occurred in his eighty-eighth year.

Mr. Baxter came west in his young manhood and entered into mercantile business in Rockford, Ill. It was there that he married Margaret J. Prindle, who was also a native of New York state. They went later to lowa, where Mr. Baxter continued in active business life until he was seventy-eight years of age. Upon retiring, he came with his daughter to Glendale, Calif., and to Mill Valley in 1916.

He was a man of sterling business qualities, invariably honorable with his creditors and merciful to his debtors. He was of a pronounced social nature and was always ready to lend his efforts to the promotion of civic interests, a loyal and genial neighbor and a sturdy citizen. Advancing years came gracefully and to his friends he leaves the memory of a benign character, marked by gentility and a never failing interest in human affairs. He was a man of broad literary tastes and of faith in things spiritual.

He was a faithful communicant of the Episcopal Church, in which he held the office of warden for many years. He was also a member of the Glendale Lodge, No. 1289, B. P. O. E.

Mrs. Baxter preceded her husband to the beyond in the year 1902. To them there came five children, three daughters and two sons. Two daughters and one son passed on in infancy, one son in a youth that was full of promise, and there remains the daughter, Mrs. E. B. (N. F.) Douglas.

Services will be held at the residence on Blithedale avenue, near Walnut, on Sunday afternoon, at 2 o’clock. Interment will be private.
