Former Merchant Succumbs In City
John J. Silvia, for many years proprietor of Silvia's Cash Store, passed away last night in a San Francisco hospital after an acute illness of two weeks.
He had been a resident and prominent among the Portuguese people of the county for about 20 years. He was 65 years of age. About five years ago he disposed of his business to his two nephews, Manuel V. Cardozo and John V. Cardozo. John Cardozo is continuing the original business, while his brother conducts a store on B street.
The other relatives surviving are, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Stewart, of Oakland, a sister in Oakland and a brother in San Francisco. Another sister resides in the Azores Islands.
The funeral will be held Monday, with services at St. Raphael's Church, and interment under the direction of Eden & Wolfe, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
