John M. Hecht, Marin Butcher, Dies In Hospital

John M. Hecht, long a butcher in Marin county, died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 70.

A native of San Francisco, Hecht is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Brusatori of San Rafael, and three sons, Arthur B. and Marston J. of San Rafael, and Lester J. of Los Angeles.

He was a member of Mt. Tamalpais Parlor No. 64, N.S.G.W. and Butcher’s Local No. 115 of San Francisco. Hecht was a butcher in San Rafael for many years and drove one of the first butcher wagons in the county.

Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday from Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael. Requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s church at 9:30 a.m. Rosary services will be recited at Keaton Chapel at 8 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

A Death Notice in the Sept. 15 paper adds that John Martin Hecht was the brother of Julius E. Hecht of New York City and that he was survived by eight grandchildren. Mt. Tamalpais Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West, conducted a service at 8:30 o’clock p.m. Sunday at the mortuary, immediately following Rosary services.
