Doris Lee (Campbell) Crocker
Doris Crocker died peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2002 at the age of 96. She was born on October 12, 1905 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the fifth of six children. In 1927 she received her BA in teaching from Albion College in Michigan where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. In 1929 she married Clinch Nathaniel Crocker, whom she had dated since their freshman year at Albion. She taught homemaking in middle school in Detroit until retiring to raise their two children. Clinch's work in the aviation industry took them to Tennessee, back to Michigan, and finally to the San Diego area in 1949. With the children grown, Doris resumed teaching homemaking until moving to Oakmont in Santa Rosa in 1971. In 1991 they moved to Novato. Throughout her life she was active in various groups in the Methodist Church, including being a member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, and president of the United Methodist Women. Doris' primary love was her family and friends. She and Clinch generously devoted much of their time to help those in need, from neighbors to Asian immigrants. Other interests included gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, and traveling. She and her husband enjoyed many trips to foreign countries, but the highlight was their seven-month driving trip throughout Europe in 1970, when they visited 30 countries including part of the former Soviet Union. The two had been married over 66 years when Clinch died in 1996. Doris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Jo Crocker of Novato, her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and George Ziegler of Belmont, and her sister Grace Colwell of Dearborn Heights, Michigan. In addition, she had six grandchildren, Nancy Crocker, Jim Crocker, Steve Crocker, Ginny Victor, Cathy Burket, and Geordie Ziegler, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends. A Memorial Service to honor and remember Doris will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church of Novato at 710 Wilson Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity
