Dr. W. H. Landon President Of Seminary Dead
Dr. Warren H. Landen (sic), president of the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo since 1910, died this morning at the Stanford Memorial Hospital, where he had undergone an operation two weeks ago and where it was believed that he was on the road to recovery.
Dr. Landen was one of the most prominent men in affairs of the Presbyterian Church in America. Last year he acted as vice-moderator of the General Assembly at the gathering in San Francisco.
Born in Albrugh, Vermont, on July 8, 1851, he was graduated from the University of Vermont in 1874, and from the Union Theological Seminary of New York in 1879.
He was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1880, and that year also was married to Miss Florence E. Phelps of South Hero, Vermont. He had been pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Palmyra, N.Y., and Calvary Church of Portland, Ore., before he was appointed professor of practical theology in the San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1892.
He was the first president of the seminary, as before 1910 no president had been announced.
Dr. Landon, whose name is numbered in those in “Who’s Who In America,” is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence Landon; two daughters, Miss Helen and Miss Mary Landon, and one son, Warren P. Landon, all of San Anselmo.
Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed.
