Melvin T. Collins, Sr.
A memorial service for Melvin T. Collins, Sr. of Mill Valley will be held at 3 p.m. today at Chapel of the Hills Mortuary in San Anselmo.
Mr. Collins, 84, died Thursday at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. He first came to San Francisco about 50 years ago and moved to Marin in 1959.
Mr. Collins was a member of the International Longshoremens and Warehousemens Union Pacific Maritime Association for more than 33 years. He retired in 1966 as a ship’s clerk.
He was a member of the Mission Golden West Masonic Lodge in San Francisco and the Islam Temple Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Collins of Mill Valley; a son, Melvin T. Collins Jr. of Independence, Ore.; a daughter, Carol Strickland of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family prefers memorial contributions to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children or Hanna Boys Center in Sonoma.
