Paid Death Notice
ERWIN – Robert H. Erwin, III, passed away in San Francisco, Sept. 18, 1994, at age 70. Born in Detroit, Mich., June 17, 1924, Mr. Erwin was recognized as an innovative business leader, philanthropist and yachtsman. He served in WWII as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, was a graduate of Michigan State University and had a distinguished career as an executive with IBM in Ohio, Michigan, Washington, D.C., and California for over 30 years. Upon retirement from IBM at age 55 he continued working as an executive with Disco Vision Associates, Visa International and as CEO of Datalax Corporation. Mr. Erwin was also Chief Financial Officer of the Marboes Foundation, a philanthropic organization supporting medical and agricultural education and research. He was a member of the World Trade Club and San Francisco Yacht Club. He was a resident of Atherton, Belvedere and most recently San Francisco.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated companion, Lynne Ogata; four children, Mark Erwin of Rancho Santa Fe, Holly Harrison of San Anselmo, Matthew Erwin of Larkspur and Christopher Erwin of Mill Valley; two sisters. Jacqueline Johnson of New Era, Mich. and Beryl Fregolie of Farmington Hills, Mich., and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Grace Cathedral Episcopal Chapel of Grace, California & Taylor, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana University Foundation, Amyloid Research Fund, c/o O. M. Benson, 1481 West 10th St., Indianapolis, Ind. 48202.
