Philip N. Behrend
Age 55 of Mill Valley, passed away April 17, 2002 in Joshua Tree National Park. His wife and best friend, Ani Jackson and sister, Jeanne Behrend, survive him. Phil obtained his MD degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1972. From 1984-2002, he was working as an ER Physician at Kaiser Hospital in South San Francisco. Phil committed his life to service and was loved by his co-workers at the Kaiser Emergency Ward for his calming presence and gentle humor. A talented physician, his intuitive, thoughtful style and ability to make rapid accurate decisions gave comfort to his patients and made him an asset in the emergency ward. Phil discovered Buddhism in 1993 and his gentle kind nature flourished in the light of the Buddhist Teachings. A lover of the planet, he supported many environmental organizations, and trekked in the Himalayan Mountains through Nepal and Bhutan. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2002 at St. Hilary's Church, 761 Hilary Drive in Tiburon. Memorial gifts preferred to Greenpeace, P.O.
