Ex-Principal Of Ross School Dies In Orinda
Funeral services were held in San Francisco today for Mrs. Edna Scott Lake, who served for many years as principal of the Ross Grammar School, and was a resident of Ross for over 40 years.
Mrs. Lake “virtually established the school” in 1910, according to Mrs. Letha Jenkins, who succeeded Mrs. Lake as principal in 1930. “She was widely-known, respected and beloved in the community,” Mrs. Jenkins added.
The Ross school, which started with a staff of two teachers, graduated its first class in 1912 and continued under the leadership of Mrs. Lake until 1930. Upon her retirement from the Ross school, Mrs. Lake remained active in teaching as a member of the staff of a private school in San Francisco.
She died Friday at the home of her son, Lawrence E. Lake, in Orinda. Burial was in her home town of Stockton.
Survivors include the son, a daughter, Mrs. Alfred D. Boardmand of Piedmont, and a brother, Harry Sweet Scott, San Francisco shipping executive.
