Stricken Man Dies Before Help Arrives

William F. Zolan, 44, of 1604 Hotchkin Drive, Novato, was stricken with a heart attack about 3:45 a.m. today and died before a doctor arrived.

Zolan, who lived with his son, William Zolan Jr., 11, and daughter, Susan, 4, called Novato Hospital and asked for a doctor, according to police. The hospital called Dr. Merton Shelton.

In the meantime, Zolan called Mrs. Catherine Comas of 25 Washington Street, with whom he worked in the base exchange warehouse at Hamilton Air Force Base. Zolan had collapsed on the bathroom floor when Mrs. Comas arrived. Dr. Shelton arrived a few minutes later and pronounced him dead.

An autopsy today fixed the cause of death as a heat attack, said Deputy Coroner Charles Johnson.

Zolan had moved to Novato just before Christmas from Daly City. He was a veteran of World War II.

In addition to his children, he is survived by a brother, Edward Zwolinski, and a sister, Mrs. Bernice Gustafson of Daly City.

Funeral services will be held at Laswell and Co. Daly City. Interment will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery.
