William C. Riehs Commits Suicide

Sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday night of last week, William C. Riehs committed suicide. Not having been seen during Thursday, Officer Collamore decided to force his way into Riehs’ bicycle store on C Street, to ascertain if the man was all right. Accompanied by Steve Eden, he opened the rear door of the store, and found Riehs in bed, covered by blankets, with a tube from the gas jet in his mouth.

The body was at once removed to the Morgue. Riehs left letters regarding the disposal of his body and following these instructions it was incinerated at the Cypress Lawn Crematory last Saturday.

An estate consisting of considerable money in bank and a lot in San Rafael was bequeathed to Miss Lena Ferguson of Napa, formerly a resident of San Rafael, who was engaged to be married to Riehs.

For the last 8 years, Riehs has operated a bicycle repair shop on C Street. He was somewhat of a genius, holding a patent for an attachment to a lathe, and another invention which he left uncompleted. Some time ago, Riehs sustained severe injuries in a fall from a bicycle and is said to have been affected mentally since that time
