GEORGE J. HILL
A private service for George J. Hill, a fire protection engineer at Western Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command, in San Bruno, will be held Friday at Keatonís Mortuary, San Rafael.
Hill, 68, of San Rafael, died Tuesday at a local hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Hill worked at the command in San Bruno for about eight years after serving as post safety engineer at the Presidio of San Francisco for 11 years. Before that he was safety engineer at Treasure Island for 10 years.
He served in the Navy as a safety engineer during World War II, rising from the rank of ensign to lieutenant commander.
After World War II he served in the Naval Reserve for 20 years and retired as a lieutenant commander. He held state licenses as a fire protection engineer, safety engineer and insurance broker.
He and his wife were active in Marin County dog organizations and in showing miniature schnauzers.
Hill was a native of Illinois and a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology.
He had been a resident of Marin for 10 years and previously lived in San Francisco for 23 years.
Surviving is his wife, Thelma Hill of San Rafael.
Inurnment will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno. The family prefers that memorial contributions go to the American Heart Fund or to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
