Mrs. Elwood Rake Passes After Illness Of 4 Years
San Rafael lost one of its most loved citizens and St. Raphaelís Catholic church one of its most faithful parishioners yesterday when Mrs. Ann E. Rake, 78, died at her home.
Mrs. Rake, a member of the pioneer Begley family of San Rafael, had been in ill health for four years.
She was the manager of Alleen apartments, 1000(?) B street.
Mrs. Rake, widow of the late Elwood S. Rake, was born in San Rafael in 1874 and had lived here all of her life.
Her late husband was connected with C. Grosjean and Company, a pioneer grocery firm which closed its doors July 30 after nearly 80(?) years of service to Marin county. He had extensive property holdings in the county.
A quiet, slight woman, Mrs. Rake was a regular communicant of St. Raphaelís Church. Throughout the years she attended masses regularly. A few years ago she was injured in a fall while going to an early morning __?__ at the church.
She regularly assisted fellow parishioners and others in need of assistance, but Mrs. Rake did this so quietly that her good works were little known except to her closest friends.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. tonight at Keatonís mortuary in San Rafael.
The funeral will be held from Keatonís mortuary at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow, with Requiem Mass to be said at 9:30 at St. Raphaelís church.
Entombment will be at Holy Cross cemetery, Colma.
Mrs. Rake is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mae Howell of San Rafael and Mrs. Margaret Kwast of Van Nuys. Three grandchildren also survive Ė Mrs. Dana Payne of Mill Valley, and Nancy and Elwood Rake of San Rafael.

A Death Notice on the same page adds that she was the mother of the late Elwood J. Rake, and sister of the late Jack, Joseph, Peter and __?__ Begley and Mrs. Agnes __?__. [poor photocopy]
