ORIN F. MUMY
Graveside service for Orin F. Mumy, 73, of 22 Beryl Avenue, Almonte, was held Monday at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.
Mumy died Feb. 3 in a San Francisco hospital, a month after suffering a stroke.
A native of Paulding, Ohio, he came to California in 1921, driving a new Model T Ford purchased for the trip. He and his wife camped out in a tent each night during the journey.
After a short time in Petaluma, he moved to Sausalito, staying there until he moved to Almonte in 1952.
He worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co., and was a trucking contractor from 1925 to 1932 (?). In the late 1930s, he was named postmaster of Angel Island, which was then an immigration port. The post office, which handled a large volume of servicemens mail during World War II, was closed in 1945.
He was a veteran of World War I, having served with the Army in France.
Surviving are his wife, Mary H. Mumy of Almonte, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Cox of Almonte and a son, Jack A. Mumy of San Rafael.
