R. Montague “Monte” Barton, longtime professional musician, died Wednesday at his home in Inverness after a lengthy illness. He was 87.
Barton was born in San Francisco. A trombonist, he became one of the first members of Musicians Union Local No. 6 of San Francisco.
He played for various bands at San Francisco hotels and elsewhere in the country. His musical career spanned some 60 years.
He had lived in Inverness the past 37 years.
Barton is survived by his wife, Edna, of the family home.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Olema Cemetery.
The family prefers memorial gifts to a favorite charity.
