Ex-Tiburon Commodore Dead At 66
Sherman Peterson, longtime resident of Belvedere, died yesterday at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 66.
Peterson was well known as a bay yachtsman and was a former commodore of Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon.
Born in Alhambra, he came to live in Marin as a young man. He and his wife, Eileen, then moved to San Francisco, where they lived for 12 years. The couple returned 25 years ago to live in Belvedere.
Peterson was an accountant with Foster’s Lunch Systems for 30 years, was manager and accountant for the San Francisco Yacht Club in Belvedere briefly and then was self-employed as an accountant. Semi-retired, he worked as a part-time accountant for the Tiburon Peninsula Club.
Peterson was a member of the San Francisco Yacht Club, past president of the National Office Managers Association and had been a vestryman at St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere.
He leaves his wife and six children, Beverly Gross of Mercer Island, Wash.’ Tina Frost of Chico; Sherry Minton of Tiburon, Robert Peterson of Corte Madera, Harland Peterson of San Rafael and David Peterson of Belvedere, and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere. Inurnment will be private.
