DIXIE V. RHINER

Dixie V. Rhiner, a longtime Novato resident, died Tuesday in a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. She was 78.

A native of Maiden Rock, Ill., she moved to California and settled in Oakland in 1935. She lived in Oakland until 1965 when she moved to Novato.

During World War II, she worked as a welder in Bay Area shipyards. She was also a waitress.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Novato. She was also active in the Senior Citizens in Novato.

Survivors include a son, Gerald Birkland of Suisun; three sisters, Florence Folsom of Petaluma, and Jane Anderson and Blanch Mathias, both of Minneapolis; three brothers, Arthur, Richard and Vernon Almsted, all of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held for her at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bahia Valley Memorial Park Chapel in Novato.

The family prefers that contributions in her name be made to the Good Shepherd Church.
