WILEY S. MALONEY
Wiley S. “Miki” Maloney of Sonoma, longtime San Francisco bureau chief for United Press International, died Monday at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Maloney, 73, spent more than 35 years as a news reporter and joined the wire service when it was known as United Press.
He and his wife, Margaret, lived in Marin while he headed the San Francisco bureau. They moved to Sonoma nine years ago.
He was a native of St. Cloud, Minn.
He also is survived by two sons, James J. Maloney of Santa Rosa and William P. Maloney of Petaluma; two daughters, Helen K. Holland of Salt Lake City and Jane E. Clayton of Santa Rosa; three brothers, George and John Maloney of Minneapolis, Minn., and James P. Maloney of Los Angeles; three sisters, Patricia Bradley of Elysian, Minn., Kathleen Masters of Belair, Minn., and Mary Kook of Elk River, Minn., and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Solano Church, Sonoma. Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 p.,. Wednesday at the Bates, Evans and Fehrensen Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma.
