I checked with one of the genealogy mailing lists and one of the posters mentioned they had donated their body to science and received a card with the following statement:

"This is to certify that I, (name here) have donated, for purpose of medical education and research my unautopsied and unembalmed remains, to the state Curator for Northern California, University of California, San Francisco, 94143-0902".

So, I believe your understanding is correct.
